Building in our District

The District realizes that wading through the permitting maze in order to build or remodel your home can be a taxing ordeal. Inasmuch as we don’t want to throw additional roadblocks in your way, we do require that you submit a set of plans to us for a review to ensure that our fire ordinances are being followed. Designing a fire safe building will not only protect your investment, it might save your life! Our goal is to help you "pre-fire engineer" your home so that it is safe for you and your guests. Yep, its that old adage about an "ounce of prevention..."

In order to help expedite your "plan check," please submit your plans as early as possible. We don’t want to hold up the process, however, if the staff checker is on vacation or away at meetings, well, you know the rest--delays are inevitable. On the positive side, most of the plan checks are processed within a few days, and sometimes the same day!

The District also requires a plan check and developer fee. These are based on the size of the project. Once we see your plans, we will be able to tell you the total fees. If you want to submit your fees along with your plans, please call us--we’ll try to predict the fees based on the information you give us.

Please download the Fire District "Application for Agency Approval for Building Permit" and fill it out. Submit it with your plans, and we will do our best to complete the check within a few days. If we have any corrections, we will notify you via fax. If everything looks fine, once we receive your fees, we will fax an approval letter to the building department so you don’t have to hand carry it down.

Fire Sprinklers

Why?
Because they save lives! The US has the worst per capita fire death record in the industrialized world. All it takes for a fire to claim a life is five minutes. Eight out of ten fire deaths in the US occur in the home. Each year, fires kill more Americans than all other natural emergencies combined, including tornadoes, floods, hurricane, etc.

A Great Solution
Fire sprinklers are the single most important piece of safety equipment you can put in your home today. Property losses are reduced 50% and deaths and injuries lowered by 73-90%!

The Facts

bulletAbout 90% of fires are contained or extinguished by just one sprinkler head flowing between 13-17 gallons per minute. This is a lot less than one of our fire nozzles spraying out 250 gallons per minute!
bulletFire sprinklers can contain and may even extinguish a fire in less time than it would take the fire engine to arrive on scene!
bulletThe odds of an accidental discharge are just one in 16 million.
bulletProperly designed sprinkler systems will not freeze in our environment.
bulletCosts: new construction: 1-2% of the building costs, remodels, slightly more.
